Day 3/40: THE LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS

One of the laws of thermodynamics is that anything left on its own for a period of time will eventually deteriorate.  I learned this lesson the hard way as a young man starting out in the ministry.  I purchased my first house, was still single and not exactly the Martha Stewart of housekeeping.  I knew that to make a house look nice, often a bowl of fruit could be put in the center of the table, so I put together some oranges, apples, bananas etc. and placed them on the table.

I was traveling as an evangelist at the time, so it wasn’t unusual to be gone for a week or two at a time, not realizing what I had done.  This trip took me away for about ten days, and when I returned home, I was greeted by a house filled with fruit flies and was amazed at how all the oranges had grown a beautiful green fuzz on them.  I learned my lesson to say the least.

You were never created to be on your own.  Shows like Castaway and Survivor are entertaining, but in the end, a man pretty much will go out of his mind, because that is not the way things are to be.  God designed you to be dependent, requiring Him in your life.

From the garden of Eden until the end of time, the Bible shows us the incredible dynamic between man and God and how that apart from Him, you can do nothing, but with Him all things are possible.  In John 15:5 Jesus says “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing”.

Imagine working and striving all your life, looking around at all you might have gained in material things, houses, cars, boats, exotic vacations, but then realizing that all those things God calls NOTHING!  Everything profitable for man cannot be taken away by rust, moths or turn to dust.  When you live a life independent and isolated from God, these temporal things become our god and as nice as they may be, they will come and they will go.  That’s why scrapyards are filled with broken rusted out cars..they don’t remain.  Isolation inevitably brings annihilation and the devils plan is always to try to separate you from the Love of God.

Verse seven of that same chapter in John does however give us a wonderful picture of how God wants you to live, blessed, increased, filled with more than enough but living by one simple principle...abide.  Without Him you're lost, but God said if you abide in Him, and His Words abide in you, you can ask what you will, and it will be done for you.

By staying connected, the life of Heaven is in you, you are eternally fed, strengthened, filled and nothing will be impossible to you, but if you sever that and choose to live detached from God, you sever the Covenant of blessing and though you may gain some earthly things, they will never bring you the joy and fulfillment that they would have had they come to you through God’s blessing upon your life.

I love Psalm 1 where the Psalmist give us a picture of a blessed person.  If you will meditate on the law of the Lord, love Him, live for Him, the Bible says you will be like a tree planted by a river, bearing fruit and your leaves will never wither and are you ready for this….YOU will prosper in ALL YOU DO.

Blessing and prosperity, increase and favor, protection and the covering of God are all the overflow of living attached to God, not independent.  If in any way you have been a victim of the enemy through circumstances trying to sever or distance you from God, re-connect today, draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.  As you do, the windows of Heaven are going to open over your life and you will be living the blessed life every day because that’s the Covenant Promise of God!

Deuteronomy 1, “Now it shall be, if If you fully obey the lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God”.
