Day 2/40: THE BEGINNING OF BLESSING

I learned to worship as a young boy.  In fact, way back in the days of Hi Fi stereos, something that looked like a low version of a china cabinet was where I used to put on the worship music, lie on the floor and tears would roll down the sides of my cheeks as I just spent time in the presence of God.

Keith Green, a name some might still remember would sing the same song over and over on the record player, and the words went deep inside of me, “Make my life a prayer to you, I wanna do what you want me to, no empty words and no white lies, to token prayers no compromise”.  No compromise!  If this was real I wanted it, and I wanted all of it.  I determined at 17 years old, that Jesus was going to be the center of my life.

The beginning of success is at our place of surrender to God and His plan. Success begins with a sacrifice, a place where you must surrender something you value for something of even greater value. If you are to succeed, it will be because you have sacrificed and laid on the altar everything that you wanted and chosen to follow after God.

In Joshua 1:8, the Bible says “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful”.

In I Samuel 18:14 the Bible says David had success in everything he did because the Lord was with him.  If you had to describe David in one word, I would call him a worshipper.  Your success begins when you learn to worship God like David did.  Worship is forsaking everything else, to put God first, but don't make the mistake of thinking that God doesn’t want you to have other things, David was abundantly blessed with many wonderful things in life, but he never forgot the reason for his success.

Worship attracts God to you, to your situation and it gives God pleasure to see you blessed and prosper in every area of your life.

Another great picture of success in the Bible is Joseph.  The bible says in Genesis 39:2 “The Lord was with Joseph, and he [even though a slave] became a successful and prosperous man”.  The greatest mistake and really, the reason many Christians fail to see God’s blessing and success upon their lives is because true sacrifice has not taken place.

Have you ever heard someone say “I’m going to have to take this into my own hands.”  Those words assassinate your blessing.  The blessing of God is an inherited right to the righteous according to Galatians 3, and we are partakers of it because of the covenant God made with Abraham.  When you take over and eliminate God from your situation, true success will evade you.

You succeed because you worship, you are a worshipper, upon the altar of sacrifice, which opens the windows of Heaven so God can pour out good, lavish and abundant blessing in every area of your life.  Remember, He desires that you would prosper, and be in good health.  You succeed because in whatever state you find yourself in, you refuse to take it into your own hands, but rather commit all your ways to the Lord, and He will fight for you.  This does not mean you don’t have to open your mouth and decree a thing, but you do it by following God’s plan, by allowing the Word of God to come out of your mouth.

I might also say, nothing will bring you closer to God than worship, it’s the starting point of everything in your walk with God, and it was worship unto God that gave David the confidence and authority to stand before his enemies and never be afraid, God’s great warrior King.

Make today, day one of your journey to success by putting God first, worshipping Him and thanking Him for every blessing He is going to give you today in Jesus Name!
